PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of current efficiency by supporting ruthenium oxide on a carbon plate. CONSTITUTION:After supporting ruthenium on a carbon plate, they are heated in the oxidizing atmosphere to convert the ruthenium into ruthenium oxide. As a way for supporting ruthenium on the carbon plate, ruthenium is directly supported on the carbon plate by sputtering, or the carbon plate impregnated with ruthenium chloride solution is dried, then heated in the reducing atmosphere at 280-750 deg.C to reduce the ruthenium chloride to ruthenium. By this way, ruthenium is strongly supported. When the supported ruthenium is oxidized by heating, a temperature of 120-500 deg.C is preferable because ruthenium is not sufficiently oxidized at less than 120 deg.C and the carbon plate is substantially consumed at more than 500 deg.C. Thereby, deterioration of current efficiency can be prevented. |
