PURPOSE:To form a colored film having superior durability by adsorbing or depositing a metallic compound on an anodic oxide film formed on Al or an Al alloy and by converting the metallic compound into the oxide of the metal by heating. CONSTITUTION:Al or an Al alloy is anodically oxidized to form an anodic oxide film. A soln. contg. one or more kinds of metallic compounds is impregnated into the anodic oxide film to adsorb or deposit the metallic compounds on the outer surface of the anodic oxide film or to deposit them in the micropores in the film. The anodic oxide film is then heat treated at >=100 deg.C to convert the metallic compounds into the oxides of the metals. Thus, the anodic oxide film is colored.
