PURPOSE:To display a picture surely in a pertinent position and minimize disturbance of the picture by processing still picture compression data having a picture address. CONSTITUTION:A cassette tape on which compressed still pictures are recorded is set to a drive mechanism 10 and is read into a CPU 4 through an I/F 8. Four picture addresses following a carrier 12 are read in, and two addresses having the same value out of 4 addresses are found at least, and this value is adopted as a picture address 13 of the next picture data 14, namely, a column number on the picture, and data 14 is read and stored in a RAM 5. This stored data is collected with a compression format to release compression in the order of G, R, and B, and developed data is written in a VRAM 7 through a VDP 6. Thus, data of one column is displayed on a display device 11.
