PURPOSE:To obtain a gas sensor which has substantial mechanical strength and high reliability and long life by providing a gas sensitive element provided to a substrate with a heater, a pair of electrodes for measuring the electrical characteristic thereof, a thin sheet for holding the entire part of the substrate with a heater and a holding plate to fix the sheet. CONSTITUTION:A mica sheet 24 as the thin sheet consisting of a material having heat resistance, electrical insulating characteristic and elasticity is fixed by, for example, eyelets 25 to a U-shaped frame 22 of the holding plate 21. The gas sensitive element 28 consists of the substrate 29 with a heater, a pair of the electrodes 30a, 30b, a pair of the heater electrodes 31a, 31b and the gas sensitive element. The gas sensitive element 28 consisting of the substrate 29, etc. is held with the sheet 24 by the elastic effect of the pawl parts 27a, 27d thereof and can be therefore fixed securely. since the contact area of the substrate 29 and the sheet 24 is decreased to decrease the heat transmission part, the temp. rise of the sheet 24 is suppressed and the sensor which can detect gas with high reliability and has the longer life is obtd.
