PURPOSE:To decrease the number of heads to be used, to obtain a recording pattern being faithful to a format, and to execute a variable speed reproduction so that a reproducing output becomes maximum, by reading a supply voltage corresponding to a rotational direction position of a rotary magnetic head from a memory, and controlling a position of the axis of rotation direction of the rotary magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A mode signal MOD is impressed to an address generator 33, and an address corresponding to a selected mode and a position of a rotational direction of the present rotary drum 31a, namely, a head is generated. As a result, a supply voltage corresponding to the mode and the head position is inputted to a D/A converter 35. This supply voltage is D/A-converted by the D/A converter 35, smoothed by a low-pass filter 36 and inputted to an actuator 37. The actuator 37 impresses the inputted supply voltage to a piezoelectric element, and moves the head to a prescribed position in the revolving shaft direction in which its reproducing output becomes maximum. Thereafter, the rotary drum 31a rotates and a position control of the head is executed.
