PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of press forming by providing die thickness adjusting and driving device to vertically drive the supporting rods of a slide and subjecting the supporting rods to lifting control by fixing the same to balance supporting devices during the balance supporting of the slide. CONSTITUTION:The balance supporting devices 7 to balance and support the slide are disposed at the four corners on the working surface of a bed 4. The supporting rods 8 are screwed via external screws 17 and internal screws 18 to the lifting rams 16 of the devices 7 so as to independently move the rods 8 upward and downward. The die thickness adjusting and driving devices 24 such as hydraulic servocontrol motors are provided separately from the cylinders for lifting the rods 8 to vertically drive the rods 8 to a prescribed extent via a control device. Press forming is executed while the devices 7 are synchronously balanced to meet the die size by the above-mentioned mechanism. Since the rods 8 can support the slide by the separate drive from the devices 7, the supporting stroke is made short and the forming accuracy is improved.
