PURPOSE:To improve the machining accuracy of gap depth by changing the boundary part of a magnetic head, which is made of more than two types of core comprising materials and has a boundary part on its surface facing a magnetic recording medium, together with a change in gap depth of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The thickness of a magnetic film 33 in a gap depth direction in terms of an operating gap part is Gd. When the magnetic head is ground from a recording medium facing surface 36, the tip of the magnetic film at a point E is reached. When a section B-B is reached after further grinding, the magnetic film 33 appears at the side of a core semi-body 32, and its width is l1. the gap depth at this time comes to (Dd-Gd1) where the thickness of the Gd is given. The relationship between the Gd1 and l1 relates to the narrowing angle theta of a coil difference wire window part. The Gd1 equals l1 under theta=45 deg.. When the width l1 of the magnetic film appearing on the recording medium facing surface is measured, the gap depth can be easily obtained. When the further grinding is carried out, the width of the magnetic film expands to l, and it equals Gd on a section C-C to obtain a gap depth of zero. Due to the grinding regulating the gap depth, the gap depth can be properly regulated.
