PURPOSE:To detect easily both of subtle position information and rough position information by providing markers on plural circles on a disc which is rotated in accordance with rotation of a ball. CONSTITUTION:Plural slits 3 are arranged on the outer circle having the same center as a disc on the disc 2 to which rotation of a ball 1 provided in a mouse is transmitted through a roll 6, and plural slits 13 are arranged on the inner circle having the same center. The number of slits 3 is larger than that of slits 13. LEDs 4 and photo transistors TRs 5 which detect rotation of the disc 2 are attached for circles on which LEDs 4 and photo TRs 5 are arranged. Rough rotation of the ball 1 is detected easily by slits 13 and the LED 4 and photo TRs corresponding to them, and subtle rotation of the ball 1 is detected easily by slits 3 and the LED 4 and photo TRs 5 corresponding to them.
