PURPOSE:To improve workability and yield by inscribing cutting lines to both glass substrates on the outside of the liquid crystal parts of a pair of the long- sized glass substrates formed with plural pieces of liquid crystal cells, pouring a liquid refrigerant into these lines, quickly cooling the substrates and cutting the same. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the liquid crystal cells not shown are formed between a pair of the long-sized glass substrates 6 and 6. The plural cutting lines 7 are inscribed by scribing to the regions outside the liquid crystal parts. The refrigerant (liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, etc.) 10 kept at, for example, <=-150 deg.C is poured into the lines 7 from an ejection port 9 of a nozzle 8 having a projecting shape and the lines 7 are quickly cooled. Tensile stress acts on the glass substrate 6 and the substrate is cut to the right and left. The cutting lines 7 of the other substrate 6 are similarly treated. The generation of glass splinters is thereby obviated and the workability and yield and improved.
