PURPOSE:To appropriately control an engine, by using a set intake-air flow rate, at a specified time, as the data of intake-air flow rate in accordance with an output signal from a second intake-air flow rate sensor independent from a first intake-air flow sensor so that errors in the data of intake-air flow rate are eliminated. CONSTITUTION:An engine is controlled in accordance with the output of a first intake-air flow rate sensor 24 for detecting the flow rate of intake-air flowing through an intake-air passage in the engine 21. There is provided a second intake-air flow rate sensor 110 for detecting such that the flow rate of intake-air exceeds a predetermined flow rate which is in the vicinity of the upper limit value of a normal operating range of the first intake-air flow rate sensor. When the intake-air flow rate exceeds the predetermined value which is indicated by an output signal from the second intake-air flow rate sensor 110, a set intake-air flow rate which is independent from the output of the first intake-air flow rate sensor 24 is used as the data of intake-air flow rate for controlling the engine. Thereby it is possible to appropriately control the engine.
