PURPOSE:To improve the utilization of a line by providing a data transmission and reception device connected to plural receivers via a low speed data line so as to attain the communication between receivers during the image reception. CONSTITUTION:In order that receivers 1, 1' receive and reproduce the video signal from a video transmission center 7, a viewing request signal is sent to a transmission controller 5 to start a video transmitter 3 via a control line 6. Then the video signal is received via video lines 2, 2'. In sending data information from the receiver 1 to the receiver 1', an inputted destination address and message information are sent to a data transmission and reception device 10 via the low speed data line 4, a signal branch/synthesis device 8 and a data communication line 9. After the data transmission reception device 10 confirms that the receiver 1' is in receiving an image, the device 10 sends the reception data to the receiver 1' via a data communication line 9'.
