PURPOSE:To provide a Pt alloy for an ornament consisting of prescribed weight percentages of Pt, Mn and Cu and having superior mechanical strength and castability as well as superior workability. CONSTITUTION:This Pt alloy for an ornament consists of 84-96wt% Pt, 1-10wt% Mn and 1-15wt% Cu. In the Pt alloy, Mn is added because it does not react with a casting mold during casting, can control the concn. of oxygen during casting and improves the mechanical strength and castability, and Cu is added because it forms an inter-metallic compound with Pt and further improves the mechanical strength by hardening. Since the Pt alloy has the above-mentioned superior characteristics, it is regarded as an epoch-making alloy substitutable for a conventional Pt alloy for an ornament.
