PURPOSE:To provide a recording medium for thermal transfer recording enabled in good gradation recording, by providing a release part substantially having no adhesive strength to heat meltable ink for thermal transfer recording on a substrate having at least an absorbing and holding part capable of absorbing and holding said ink on the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer film 2 and a recording medium 3 are at first held between a thermal head 1 and a platen roller 4 under pressure. The heat-meltable ink layer 24 at the part held between said head 1 and the platen roller 4 is melted by the heat generated from a heat generating element 11 to which power was applied and penetrated in the recording medium 3 under pressure. When the thermal transfer film 2 is released from the recording medium 3, the ink layer is divided and released from the surface of the release part 31 because the release part 31 on the surface of the recording medium 3 has no adhesive strength to heat-meltable ink 22. As a result, heat-meltable ink is transferred to the recording medium 3 in the amount corresponding to the power applied to the heat generating element 11 to obtain recording 33 having desired gradation. The released heat-meltable ink 23 remains on the base material of the thermal transfer film 2. |
