PURPOSE:To achieve the increase in the dimension measuring speed of a work and the enhancement of the dimesion measuring accuracy thereof, by constituting the title apparatus so that the measuring element holding member mounted to a slider in a state displaceable in the moving direction of said slider is held to the almost intermediate position of the slider by a pair of springs holding the measuring element holding member therebetween. CONSTITUTION:In measuring the dimension between the surfaces P1, P2 of a work W, a slider 6 is allowed to advance toward the measuring surface P1 of the work W to contact the leading end of a measuring element 82 with the measuring surface P1 of the work W. When the slider 6 is allowed to further advance in this state, a measuring element holding member 54 can not advance further and, therefore, only the slider 6 advances while compresses the spring 71 of a first energizing shaft 63. Before long, a fist switch 78 is turned ON by one end of the measuring element holding member 54 and the dimension from a certain reference position to the measuring surface P1 of the work W is displayed on a digital display device through an operational processing circuit. Succeedingly, when the measuring surface P2 of the work W is measured by the same operation, the dimension between the measuring surfaces P1, P2 is displayed. As mentioned above, because measurement is compensated by springs 71, 74, rapid and highly accurate measurement is enabled.
