PURPOSE:To impart a porous material with wettability with water and improve the gas permeability of the material, by immersing a porous polyolefin resin in a mixture of sulfuric acid and potassium bichromate, thereby corroding the pore wall of the porous material with acid. CONSTITUTION:A porous polyolefin resin, e.g. foam of polyethylene or polypropylene resin having open or closed cell structure is immersed in a liquid mixture of (A) 10-80%, preferably 40-60% aqueous solution of sulfuric acid and (B) 2-30%, preferably 5-10% potassium bicarbonate based on the component B, at normal temperature -70 deg.C for 5-40hr. The wall of the pore is corroded with acid by the intrusion of the liquid mixture into the pores of said porous material to roughen the wall surface of the pore, expand the pore size and remove thin pore walls. The wettability with water and the gas permeability of the porous material can be improved by this treatment.
