PURPOSE:To obtain a photo-thyristor device with a driving light source capable of projecting beams having a required duration by connecting one tip of an optical fiber to two optical fibers through an optical branch appliance and coupling one of them with a light-emitting diode and the other with a laser diode. CONSTITUTION:A light-emitting diode 1 is coupled with an optical fiber 7 through a photo-coupler 2 with a lens 5, and a laser diode 2 is combined with an optical fiber 8 through a photo-coupler 4 with a lens 6. The optical fibers 7 and 8 are connected to one optical fiber 10 through an optical branch appliance 9, and the other tip of the optical fiber 10 is coupled with a light-receiving section for a photo-thyristor element. Beams from the light-emitting diode 1 and the laser diode 2 are each condensed by the lenses 5, 6 in the photo-couplers, reach the optical branch appliance 9 through the optical fibers 7, 8, and are projected to the light-receiving section for the photo-thyristor element through the optical fiber 10. Accordingly, light pulses having sufficient width required for positively turning the photo-thyristor ON and a high peak value necessary for an overdrive can be projected to the thyristor element.
