For the gas-tight breech lock of a weapon barrel 5, the breech lock wedge 1 of a wedge breech lock 100 carries a breech lock part 2 in guide grooves 4 which are arranged running obliquely, which breech lock part 2 is driven by the breech lock wedge 1 in a section-by-section manner during the downwards movement of said breech lock wedge 1, but is then impeded on its further downwards movement by an inclined ramp 6 which is arranged in a fixed position in the weapon housing 101, and is finally pushed into the barrel 5 in the axial direction by being acted on by means of an obliquely running boundary surface 1a of the guide groove 4. In order to seal the barrel 5 in a gas-tight manner, the breech lock part 2 carries circumferentially on its boundary surface 2a facing the barrel 5 a sealing lip 3 which is circumferential in the form of an annulus and is loaded only in the radial direction. <IMAGE>
