Mechanical seal with a flexible sealing lip, provided integrally on the slip ring, for sealing off the slip ring relative to a shaft or a housing. Cut axially into the slip ring is a groove which, on one side, forms the sealing lip and, on the other side, forms a supporting part for a preloading element contained in the groove and acting on the lip.
