The process according to the invention for coating sticks, in particular pencils, comprises treating the pencils, provided with a layer of polymerisable resin, with accelerated electrons, the pencils being introduced into a chamber, which is under protective gas, by dropping in free fall, the pencils passing through curtains with accelerated electrons. A device according to the invention for the application of this process comprises in particular a drying device for this resin which is formed by a closed chamber (6) which contains two electron guns (7, 7') and has an inlet opening (8) in the upper wall for the introduction of the pencils and an outlet opening (9) in the base for the removal of the treated pencils to the outside; the inlet opening and the outlet opening are in this arrangement arranged vertically one above the other in such a manner that the pencils can pass through one after the other in free fall. <IMAGE>
