PURPOSE:To permit even semi-angular letters to be printed in a vertical writing manner by a method in which when vertically writing printing is designated, semi-angular letters, if any, are subjected to a letter pattern conversion process and then printed in a vertically writing manner. CONSTITUTION:When letter pattern pattern for leteral writing, as in the case of 1, generated from a character generator 8 is converted into one for vertical writing, conversion processing is made in order from the first row in the main controller 1, where letter pattern 13 is converted into letter pattern 14 in which the vertical direction is compressed to 1/2, and the pattern 14 is then converted into letter pattern 15. The letter pattern so converted is sent to the buffer of a printing control circuit 11. When printing pattern data for one line are sent, the data are read out in the unit of line in the order of 1', 2', and 3' line from the letter pattern stored in the buffer and orderly supplied to a printing head consisting of 16 dots arranged in vertical one row. Vertically writing printing of a shape in which the letter pattern is turned at 90 deg. is made. |
