PURPOSE:To obtain a light-weight thermal head having a linear heating element by a method in which an insulating glaze layer is formed on a nearly L-shaped or U-shaped bent metal base plate,and a heating element is formed on the glaze layer. CONSTITUTION:An insulating glaze layer 2, e.g., enamel, etc., is formed by baking on a thin metal plate 1, e.g., nearly L-shaped bent stainless steel or carbon steel plate. A heating resistor 3 consisting of thin resistor films of TaSi or TaN is formed in an L-shaped portion 1a of the base plate 1. Electrodes 4 of a conductor, e.g., Au, Cu, etc., are formed on both sides of the resistor 3. The resistor 3 at least is covered with a wear-resistant film 5 of a high-hard material, e.g., SiC, Ta2O5, etc., for preventing the oxidation and abrasion caused by contact with recording medium of the resistor 3. |
