PURPOSE:To carry out methylation, by reacting naphthalene or methy naphthalene with a methylating agent in the presence of a catalyst containing crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having specific molar ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 and lattice spacing of X-ray. CONSTITUTION:In methylation wherein naphthalene and/or monomethylnaphtha lene is methylated with (e.g., methanol, or dimethyl ether), the reaction is carried out at 250-600 deg.C by using a catalyst containing crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a molar ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 of 10-100 and a lattice spacing of X- ray of with high peaks at 3.86 and 3.83d(Angstrom ) as the catalyst. EFFECT:Especially monomethylation is carried out in high conversion ratio and in high selectivity, the catalyst has low deterioration in activity, and can be used for a long time. |
