PURPOSE:To designate an IPL (initial program load) use device without requiring a troublesome operator's operation, when turning on a power source, by performing an IPL operation in accordance with a priority order which has been set in advance to plural sets of IPLs. CONSTITUTION:When a control is delivered to an IPL program by turning on a power source, etc., and an operator executes no key operation, a connection of a disk device 7 whose priority order is the highest as an IPL use device is checked. When it is connected, the disk device 7 is started, an initial program is loaded to an area 10 of a main storage device 3, and an IPL operation is executed. In addition to a fact that a system determines the IPL use device in accordance with the priority order which has been determined in advance, the IPL use device can be determined optionally by a key operation of the operator in the same way as before.
