The control device for locking systems in motor vehicles includes a portable optical signal transmitter (24A, 24B) and a plurality of optical signal receivers (12, 14, 16, 18) which are mounted on the outside of the motor vehicle (10). Each optical signal receiver (12, 14, 16, 18) is coupled to a central evaluation unit (22) via an optical waveguide (20). By comparing the levels, the said central evaluation unit (22) determines the main direction from which the optical signal receivers (12, 14, 16, 18) are loaded by the portable optical signal transmitter (24A, 24B). Depending on the main receiving direction determined in this way, the various locks of the mechanical locking system can be selectively controlled. <IMAGE>
