PURPOSE:To improve joint strength and working yield by forming a groove in a protection substrate and slanting the side edge part of the groove opposite a magnetic gap to the magnetic gap, and making track width smaller than the thickness of a head core. CONSTITUTION:Two continuous shallow grooves 22 and 22' are formed in the top surface 21 of the protection substrate 20 so that adjacent end parts overlap each other, and a shallow groove 23 is provided. At this time, both end parts of the shallow grooves 22 and 22' are slanted and the projection part in the center of the shallow groove 23 is a little bit deeper than the track width of the magnetic head. Then, a metallic magnetic material film 24 is formed in the shallow groove 23, glass 25 is provided, and the protection substrate 20' is superposed and then heated and pressed to form a jointed body 26, which is divided in the center to obtain core half blocks 27 and 27'. Them a groove 29 for coil winding is formed and then a nonmagnetic gap film is formed on surfaces 28 and 28'; and the half bodies 27 and 27' are made to abut on each other and joined together by pressing and heating and cut to the core width T to obtain a magnetic head 33.
