An electrical capacitor has a capacitor element (10) formed as a winding or stack (12) of dielectric foils provided with terminal bridges (14, 16) sprayed onto both ends and an interrupting device (22) which separates one or both leads (30,32) of the capacitor from the winding or stack (12) on the occurrence of an inadmissibly high heating of the capacitor element and of the formation of gas in its interior induced thereby. The interrupting device has a rigid plate (22) which engages a surface section of the capacitor element cambering outwardly on the formation of gas and extends up to both terminal bridges (14, 16). The terminal leads (30,32) of the capacitor element are at least frictionally retained in the edge surface regions (24,26) of the rigid plate (22) and are connected to the terminal bridges (14, 16) by connecting webs (40) sprayed onto the edge surface regions, simultaneously with, or after, the terminal bridges (14, 16). The webs (40) are broken when overheating moves the plate 22. <IMAGE> |
