PURPOSE:To prevent a magnetic head from being broken by selecting a magnetic cleaning operation mode and loading a cleaning sheet, and rotating the cleaning sheet at a specific rotating speed for a specific time and then stopping the rotation of the cleaning sheet automatically. CONSTITUTION:The head cleaning mode is selected with a mode change-over SW 19 and the cleaning sheet 10 is loaded instead of a magnetic disk. Then, a motor control circuit 16 drives a motor 14 through a motor driving circuit 15 to rotate the cleaning sheet 10, which slides on the sheet abutting surface of a head 11 to start cleaning operation. Simultaneously, a timer 17 begins to measure the time and the head 11 is moved by a head driving circuit 12 from the 1st track to the final track. When the time required to clean the magnetic head 1 is elapsed, the timer 17 outputs a motor stop signal to the motor control circuit 16 to stop supplying electric power to the motor 14 through a motor driving circuit 15, thereby stopping the rotation of the cleaning sheet 10.
