PURPOSE:To efficiently refine a nickel-containing steel by adding nickel oxide to a hot molten iron to form an Ni-containing molten iron and then by refining it. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron tapped from a blast furnace is received in a vessel such as torpedo car. After that, the nickel oxide is added to the >=1,250 deg.C molten iron to form the nickel-containing molten iron, with which a top and bottom blown convertor etc. is charged to carry out refining so that impurities such as C, Si, P, S, etc., contained in the molten iron are removed and then the components of the molten steel are regulated to refine the nickel- containing molten steel. In this way, an oxidizing smelting stage as well as a melting-reducing smelting stage can be omitted in the process of crude ferronickel production, so that the nickel-containing molten steel can be easily obtained.
