PURPOSE:To obtain the titled medium for photomagnetic recording having excellent corrosion resistance and with less limitations to production processes by providing a dielectric layer, an M1 layer, a recording layer and an M2 layer on a substrate, forming the recording layer with the thin film of an alloy consisting essentially of a rare earth and a transition metal and forming the M1 layer and the M2 layer with a Co-Cr vertically magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:A dielectric layer 12, an M1 layer 14,a recording layer 16 and an M2 layer 18 are successively formed on a substrate 10. In this case, the recording layer 16 is formed with a film of an alloy consisting essentially of a rare earth and a transition metal and the M1 layer 14 and the M2 layer 18 are respectively formed with a Co-Cr vertically magnetized film. For example, the dielectric layer 12 is made with an SiO2 film, the M1 layer 14 is formed with a Co-Cr vertically magnetized film and the film thickness is regulated to 20nm. The recording layer 16 is formed by using a Tb28Fe72 alloy film and the film thickness is controlled to 60nm. Moreover, the M2 layer 18 is formed with the same Co-Cr vertically magnetized film as the M1 layer and the film thickness is adjusted to 100nm.
