PURPOSE:To prevent the memory medium of a translation supporting device from going to large capacity by providing a data base used for converting data from a specific code expression into other one and a word processor. CONSTITUTION:When a person translates from Japanese to English, a data 'auto' in the data base 1 controls English expressions such as 'auto', 'automachine', 'automation' and 'fullauto' with respect to 'auto' in Japanese expression. A translator retrieves these expressions to display sequentially them on the display of the word processor 2, and selects an appropriate expression. Thus the memory medium is prevented from going to large capacity and moreover the translating time can be remarkably reduced. The data base is shared through a communication circuit, and accordingly it can be used as a network.
