PURPOSE:To obtain readily and efficiently a protoplast, by treating a suspension of microbial cells of a microorganism belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium with endo-N-acetylmuramidase under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A suspension of microbial cells of a microorganism belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium, e.g. Bifidobacterium bifidum or Bifidobacterium infantis, is treated with endo-N-acetymuramidase in the presence of 0.1-0.7mol trisaccharide, e.g. raffinose, melezitose or maltotriose, and 0.1-3mmol magnesium ion at 25-40 deg.C. |
