PURPOSE:To set optionally a group designation and its name by providing a structure data file to store the data item number, the item names, the data format and the file structure. CONSTITUTION:A data editing device 10 is provided with a system software editor 1, a CRT 2, a key input means 3 and a structure data file 4. The file 4 stores the data item number, the item names, the data format and the file structure. Then the number of data items and the item names of the file supplied and edited to the file 4 are set optionally. At the same time, some data items are treated as a group. Thus it is possible to set optionally a group and its name.
