PURPOSE:To accurately further easily set an optimum fixed clearance, by interposing a burnt member destroyed by heat of exhaust gas between a monolithic catalyst carrier and a supporting member contained in a casing. CONSTITUTION:A casing 2 housing a monolithic catalyst carrier 1 comprises a central cylindrical part 3, tapered conical parts 4, 5 successively provided to both sides of the part 3, and connection flanges 6, 7 welded to point ends of the parts 4, 5. Here a conical support member 12 is coaxially fitted to the inside of the part 4 of the casing 2, and an external flange 13 formed to one end of said member 12 is pressed to the other end 10 of said carrier 1 through a ring shaped burnt member 15 consisting of paper or the like, while the other end 14 of said member 12 is welded to an internal peripheral face of the flange 6. In this way, the member 15 is destroyed by heat of exhaust gas, and a gap in accordance with a thickness A of the member 15 can be accurately further easily formed between the flange 13 of the member 12 and the carrier 1. |
