PURPOSE:To obtain a modified fluoroelastomer excellent in moldability, compatibility, etc., by graft-reacting a vinyl monomer with fluoroelastomer particles in an aqueous suspesion system in the presence of a specified radical polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:70-5wt% vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene or ethyl acrylate) is graft-reacted with 30-95wt% fluoroelastomer particles (e.g., tetrafluoroethylene/ propylene elastomer or fluorosilicone elastomer) in an aqueous suspension system in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator of a 10hr half-life tempera ture of 50-150 deg.c (e.g., 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide or azobisisobutyronitrile). In this way, modified fluoroelastomer particles with have excellent compatibity with polymers such as polystyrene or acrylonitrile/styrene copolymer and can give a molding excellent in appearance, etc. are obtained.
