PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption of a display unit by detecting approach of a human body and making on and off of a display unit using the result. CONSTITUTION:When a man approaches the front of an infrared-ray detector 4, an output signal is caused by infrared-ray emitted from the human body. The signal is amplified by an amplifier circuit 5 and inputted to a controlling circuit 6. The controlling circuit 6 outputs a display driving signal to a display driving circuit 7 and drives a display unit 8. Thus, the display unit 8 is driven only when it is necessary to observe the display unit 8, and power consumption of the display unit can be held down to the minimum.
