PURPOSE:To obviate the partial inconspicuousness of the display of a large-sized liquid crystal cell even if such cell is formed and to improve remarkably the response speed thereof by dispersing the fine particles of a tin oxide into a liquid crystal orienting film thereby decreasing the volume resistance value thereof. CONSTITUTION:Part of an org. tetracarboxylic acid is preliminarily is brought into reaction with the aminosilane compd. expressed by the formula B to form a silane-modified polyhydric carboxylic acid compd. in the stage of bringing the org. tetracarboxylic acid and the diamino compd. consisting essentially of the compd. expressed by the formula A into reaction. A polyimide soln. is prepd. by bringing the silane-modified polyhydric carboxylic acid compd. together with the remaining org. tetracarboxylic acid into reaction with the diamino compd. in an org. solvent. The tin compd. having at least either of a hydrolyzable functional group and oxidation decomposable functional group is compounded with such polyimide soln. The polyimide soln. compounded with the tin compd. is used as a soln. for forming the liquid crystal orienting film.
