PURPOSE:To prevent wrinkles from being generated on a magnetic recording medium by providing a base body tension adjusting mechanism between a vapordepositing member and a winding roll, and adjusting a tension difference between before and behind a tension member 59 <=10N/mm<2>. CONSTITUTION:A guide roll 6, a tension roll 7, and a guide roll 8 constitute a base body tension adjusting mechanism, a base body tension detecting device 15 and 16 are attached before and behind the tension roll 7, and a tension before and behind the tension roll 7 of a running base body 2 is detected. The detected tension is transferred to a suitable interlocking mechanism through an electric system, and the number of revolutions and a position, etc. of the tension roll 7 are controlled by the suitable interlocking mechanism, and adjusted so that a tension difference of the base body 2 before and behind the tension roll 7 becomes <=10N/mm<2>. Accordingly, the magnetic recording medium is not made to expand and contract greatly in the width direction by a large tension difference, wound softly to a winding roll 10, and generation of wrinkles is prevented satisfactorily.
