PURPOSE:To control an automatic winding device of a sheet of continuous paper with only one sensor and simplify construction while reduce a cost by making winding control of said continuous paper by program control, by means of a sensor which is synchronized with an energizing means for said continuous paper. CONSTITUTION:When a starting signal is detected by a photo-sensor 11, a DC motor 5 is driven for a certain time, and then, stopped for a certain time and, if the number of times of this repetition is above a set number, the breakage of a sheet of continuous paper is detected, whereas, when it is below the set number, the photo-sensor 11 is again monitored, and this procedure is repeated. Since the driving time of the motor 5 should not be set in such a way that the quantity of the continuous paper 4 at the time of its maximum winding diameter is wound exceeding the stroke of a tension arm 1, the input of the photo-sensor 4 is not always varied with one winding of a minimum winding diameter for which the winding quantity is small. Accordingly, the winding can be continuously repeated and, when the input of the sensor 5 is not varied even if the set number of times is continuously repeated, any breakage on the continuous paper can be detected.
