PURPOSE:To increase sufficiently the adhesive strength between a substrate and a magnetic recording layer by mixing and dispersing the fine particles of a magnetic substance in a nonmagnetic substance, molding the mixture into the substrate, etching the surface and then forming the magnetic recording layer by a thin film deposition method. CONSTITUTION:The fine particles 2 of a magnetic substance is mixed and dispersed in a nonmagnetic substance 1 and the mixture is molded in the desired forms of a film, a sheet, etc. the surface is etched to remove the surface layer and expose the surface of internally mixed magnetic substance and the modified layer such as an oxide layer is removed. The film of a magnetic recording layer 3 is formed by vacuum deposition, sputtering, ion plating, plating, etc. In this case, a film is also formed on the exposed surface of the magnetic substance particles in the nonmagnetic substrate. Since the adhesive strength between the film and the magnetic substance particles is much higher than the adhesive strength between the film and the nonmagnetic substrate material, the adhesive strength between the substrate and the recording layer is improved as a whole.
