PURPOSE:To obtain the titled coke capable of providing stable operation of a gasification furnace without deteriorating nor cracking by thermal shock, by semicarbonizing green briquettes with sensible heat of a high-temperature combustion gas produced by burning a waste gas after reducing an iron ore in an ore reduction furnace with air, etc. CONSTITUTION:A melting gasification furnace 1 and iron ore reduction furnace 14 are operated, and part (18e) of a waste gas 18 of the iron ore reduction furnace 14 discharged from the iron ore reduction furnace 14, without cooling nor dehydrating, is fed to a combustion furnace 5 and burned with air or oxygen 6 to give a high-temperature combustion waste gas (18b). On the other hand, caking coal 20 is mixed with non-caking coal 21 and binder 22 in a kneader 23 and formed into green briquettes 26, which are then charged into a semicarbonization furnace 17. The high-temperature combustion waste gas (18b) is then fed from the combustion furnace 5 to the semicarbonization furnace 17 to semicarbonize the green briquettes 26 by the sensible heat thereof to give semicarbonized coke 13, which is then charged into the melting gasification furnace 1.
