PURPOSE:To allow the exchange side to execute the subscriber line test easily and quickly by transmitting and receiving a test instruction and a test result data between a subscriber line test section and a modulator/demodulator section of the exchange side. CONSTITUTION:The test circuit for optional subscriber lines 2, 3 is formed by operating a switch 50 so as to apply switching connection to switching contacts of an optional corresponding channel of a PCM carrier of the exchange side and a PCM carrier equipment of the subscriber side. Then a test operation section 39 is operated to send various test instructions from a modulation/ demodulation section 40 of the exchange side and they are received by a modulation/demodulation section 44 of the subscriber side. A subscriber test section 47 conducts various tests of the subscriber lines 2, 3 according to the inputted test instructions and the test result data are transferred to the modulation/demodulation section 40 through the modulation/demodulation section 44. Thus, the maintenance personnel discriminates the test result of optional subscriber lines depending on the output data from the modulation/demodulation section 40.
