PURPOSE:To enable high-speed electrolytic tinning giving a thick film by adding a small amount of m-aminoacetoanilide and m-nitroacetoanilide to an electrolytic tinning bath so as to reduce the formation of sludge and to increase the permitted current density. CONSTITUTION:To an electrolytic tinning bath having a prescribed composition contg. halogen are added 0.5-5.0g/l m-aminoacetoanilide and/or m- nitroacetoanilide. The resulting tinning bath is very effective in inhibiting the oxidation of bivalent tin ions over the entire pH range, and especially the effect is remarkable at a low pH. When the tinning bath is used, smooth, lustrous and nondendritic tin having superior adhesion can be electrodeposited on a steel sheet.
