CONTINUOUS ANNEALING FURNACE

PURPOSE:To provide the titled furnace which supports a metallic strip in a catenary state by the ejected gas without contact and which stabilizes the support and reduces the energy to be consumed during annealing by using the static pressure induced by the baffle plates disposed atop wind boxes to assist the support. CONSTITUTION:The metallic strip S is run horizontally and is passed through a heating zone 5 and a cooling zone 6 of a continuous annealing furnace 1. The gas is ejected from the many wind boxes 17 which have nozzle apertures 29 in the direction intersecting with the traveling route and disposed at the prescribed intervals along the traveling route below said route to support the traveling strip S in the catenary state without contact. The baffle plates 21 projecting along the traveling route are disposed atop the boxes 17. Then the runoff of the gushing flow toward the bottom surface of the strip S to the side edges is limited and the static pressure by the gas is generated between the strip S and the top surfaces of the boxes 17. The strip S is stably supported by such pressure coupled with the gushing flow without contact. The reduction of the energy consumption is made possible with the furnace disposed with the heating and cooling devices above and below the strip S.
