PURPOSE:To perform the input processing and the updating of a logical file with a user program by adding information indicating whether the updating is possible or not and information of access mode to logical file definition information for each physical file. CONSTITUTION:Information indicating whether updating is possible or not and information of usable access mode which are concerned with all physical files stored in a physical file coupling information 7a are preliminarily stored in a physical file information 7b. Consequently, a logical file access processor 9 can refer to logical file definition information 70 to process the access request from a user program 8 though the access is requested to input a logical file 5, namely, to write the logical file 5 in a main storage device which the user program 8 uses or the access is requested to update the logical file 5, namely, to store contents of said main storage device in the logical file 5.
