PURPOSE:To make fluctuation of illuminance of a read part small against variation of paper thickness of an original, mechanical positional deviation etc. by arranging optical axes of plural light sources for illumination to intersect behind the face of the original. CONSTITUTION:Optical axes of LED array 1 inside of a reading head intersect behind the face of an original 2 and information light from the illuminated and scanned original enters a sensor 4, and an image information is read. When optical axes of the LED array 1 are made to intersect behind the original by an amount corresponding to variation of paper thickness of the original, the face of the original can be conformed with the center of distribution of illuminance, and the fluctuation of illuminance can be made small.
