PURPOSE:To position a carrier in a reference position stably and surely by detecting always a temporary reference position at such timing that the detection of the temporary reference position is not affected by mechanical crossing or the like. CONSTITUTION:A stepping means 101 is provided which allows a carrier 100 to step in accordance with stepping pulses having a prescribed period 105, and it is detected by a position detecting means 102 that the carrier steps into a part 104 near a position 103 as the temporary reference position. If it is judged by a positional relation detecting means 106 that the temporary reference position 103 is in a sampling time 109, the position corresponding to a specific phase is defined as the reference position after a relative relation adjusting means 108 adjusts relative relations 107. As the adjusting method of relative relations 107, the detection position of the temporary reference position detecting means 102 is shifted or a phase to which a specific phase 109 is shifted by a prescribed extent is defined as a new specific phase.
