PURPOSE:To obtain a cold die steel of high quality almost free from defects such as microvoids or inclusions by adding prescribed percentages of C, Si, Mn and Cr as essential components and further adding a regulated amount of Al. CONSTITUTION:The titled cold die steel contains, by weight, 0.80-2.00% C, <=2.00% Si, <=2.00% Mn and 4-16% Cr as essential components and further contains 0.010-0.100% Al. The occurrence of microdefects can be reduced by adding Al. A molten steel contg. Al besides C, Si, Mn and Cr is refined and cast into an ingot by bottom pouring with an antioxidant to manufacture the cold die steel. At this time, the molten steel is required to rise at <=200mm/ sec rate during the pouring.
