MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain the title medium having a low friction coefficient by providing a nonmagnetic substrate layer which is deposited to form an uneven surface on the surface of a discoid substrate and furnishing a magnetic film layer of a Co-Ni alloy on the substrate layer. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic substrate layer which is deposited to form an uneven surface is provided on the surface of a discoid substrate an a magnetic layer of a Co-Ni alloy is furnished on the substrate layer to obtain a magnetic recording medium. Or the film of a nonmagnetic substrate layer having an uneven surface is formed on the surface of the discoid substrate and the magnetic film layer of a Co-Ni alloy is formed on the surface of the discoid substrate to produce the medium. Consequently, a magnetic recording medium resistant to impact and having an excellent start-stop property, namely the CSS resistance, can be obtained.
