PURPOSE:To reduce the generation ratio of data detection errors by providing an overflow limiter for sample value to a data detecting circuit which samples the reproduced waveform of a digital signal with a frequency M time as high as a channel bit rate. CONSTITUTION:The signals reproduced from the tracks of a digital tape recorder by reproduction heads 11-1n or the signals obtained by integrating those reproduced signals are sent to an analog multiplexer 3 via preamplifiers 21-2n. The output of the multiplexer 3 is sent to an A/D converter 4 and converted into the digital sampling data. The sampling is carried out with a frequency M (M>1) times as high as the data channel bit rate given from the converter 4. The digital sequential signal sent from the converter 4 is transmitted to a digital equalizer 5. The output of the equalizer 5 is sent to an overflow limiter 6. The output signal given from the limiter 6 is sent to a time division multiplex data detecting circuit 7 for detection of the record data at every channel. Thus the data detecting clock can be extracted with no malfunction.
