PURPOSE:To very easily obtain the almost complete graphite film and fiber at a low temperature by heat-treating a specific high polymer of the starting material at the prescribed temperature in the production of the titled graphite film and fiber by heating an organic substance or a carbonaceous material. CONSTITUTION:The high polymer film or fiber composed of one or more than one sorts of the polymer selected from the group comprising polyoxadiazole, polybenzothiazole, polybenzobisthiazole, polybenzoxazole, polybenzobisoxazole and polythiazole is heat-treated, while stretching at a temp. of 400-700 deg.C under a vacuum or an inert gas. And then, the obtd. film or fiber is heat-treated at a temp. of >=1,600 deg.C under the vacuum or the inert gas atmosphere to obtain the titled film and fiber. According to the method as mentioned above, the graphitization is easily performed with easily removing a hetero element contd. in a condensed polycyclic structure of the starting material. |
